Per van der Kooi

Per van der Kooi

Senior Associate | Attorney at law

Real Estate & Government

Per van der Kooi is one of De Clercq’s ‘old hands’ in the legal profession. While he has comprehensive experience in many areas of law, he primarily specialises in property law (from development to completion) and tenancy law. He has also been a guest lecturer at Leiden University in the latter legal area. As a client-oriented attorney, Per is a steadfast supporter and valued sparring partner who consistently seeks opportunities for amicable dispute resolution. In the event that this is not feasible or successful, however, he does not shy away from the option of litigation.

Per has more than 30 years of experience in drafting letters of intent, construction agreements and general terms and conditions, and advises and litigates in matters concerning construction (including arbitration), and the purchase, sale and leasing of residential and commercial property.

Education

After studying at Leiden University, Per successfully completed the postgraduate course in Procurement Law (cum laude) at VU Amsterdam in 2007.

Career

Per commenced his law career in 1993 and joined De Clercq in 2001. He served for a number of years as a Lecturer in Practical Education (negotiation and advocacy) in the professional training programme run by the Dutch Bar Association (Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten), and was also a guest lecturer in Tenancy Law at Leiden University for some time.

Per’s daily practice

‘When I started my career as an attorney, my practice was initially broad and general in nature. In addition to tenancy law, I now focus primarily on construction law and the broader aspects of property law, starting from the initial sketch, navigating the permit process and the architect and building contract, to completion and sale or rental of the property. My clients mainly include property developers, housing associations, landlords, tenants, clients, architects and contractors.’
